Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam movie has added Tony nominee James Cusati-Moyer to its cast. His role, however, is being kept under wraps.
DCEU’s Dwayne Johnson-fronted Black Adam movie has cast James Cusati-Moyer in an unknown role. Attached to play the character for over a decade, the former WWE superstar was initially poised to appear as a villain in David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! movie. But given Johnson’s celebrity stature, DC Films spun off his character into a proper solo film, set 5000 years after the imprisonment of the titular Kahndaq warrior. Despite Johnson’s global star power, Black Adam has taken some time to get going. But last year, the film made some considerable progress, and it’s now just about ready to go. Black Adam is scheduled to begin filming this month, before releasing theatrically next year on July 29, 2022.Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view.START NOW
Black Adam‘s primary cast has already been rounded out, with Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, and Quintessa Swindell joining as Atom Smasher, Hawkman, and Cyclone – three members of the Justice Society of America (JSA) who seek to fight for justice and truth. Recently James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan was also cast as the 4th JSA member, Dr. Fate. Besides Brosnan, Centineo, Swindell, and Hodge, Black Adam stars The Rookie‘s Sarah Shahi and Aladdin‘s Marwan Kenzari as well. Sarah will likely appear as Adam’s love interest Iris, whereas Kenzari is reportedly on board as the villain. Now another actor has joined the cast of the forthcoming DC tentpole.
As reported by Deadline, Tony nominee James Cusati-Moyer has been cast in Black Adam. However, the actor’s role is a mystery, as producers New Line and DC are keeping the details of his character under wraps. Cusati-Moyer also confirmed his casting via Instagram, stating that he is ‘thrilled’ to join the movie’s ‘incredible’ ensemble and become a part of the massive DC Universe.
Cusati-Moyer’s credits span an impressive roster of TV and theatre projects. Recently nominated for a Tony Award for his role as Dustin in Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play, the actor has notably starred in shows like Blue Bloods, The Path, and Prodigal Son. A few months back, he also wrapped up filming for Shonda Rhimes’ Inventing Anna, a Netflix mini-series based on Jessica Pressler’s New York Magazine article. Arguably, Cusati-Moyer isn’t as well-known of a star as his other Black Adam castmates. Yet, he is a fresh addition to the movie’s gallery of intriguing characters, whose stage finesse would undoubtedly complement his performance.
At the moment, it’s hard to make something out of Cusati-Moyer’s casting, as the details surrounding his role remain confidential. But the chances are that he might play Amon Tomaz/Osiris, Isis’ brother who joins the Teen Titans after helping people across the world using the powers granted to him by his brother-in-law Black Adam. Cusati-Moyer’s physique and appearance closely resemble Amon’s characterization in the comics, and his range of expressions and emotions, which he has mastered through his years on stage, cater well to Amon’s demanding storyline and the emotional struggles he endures throughout. Nevertheless, fans will still have to wait for an official confirmation to find out about Cusati-Moyer’s role. But that shouldn’t take too long, considering that updates are bound to arrive as Black Adam gets underway.
